CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program that is constantly varied functional movement performed at high intensity. Crossfit improves fitness and therefore physical preparedness, which it defines as "work capacity across broad time and modal domains". Workouts are typically short, 20 minutes or less, and intense, demanding all-out physical exertion.

CrossFit combines movements from three domains; weightlifting, gymnastics, and metabolic conditioning. CrossFit is also the community that arises when people perform these these workouts as a group. In fact, the communal aspect of CrossFit is a key component of why it is so effective. Members form friendships and relationships based on a common goal; to not only become a healthier person, but a better person.
